ESPN scribe Marc Stein reported this evening that the Magic are interested in Greg Monroe, a 24-year old power forward who is a restricted free agent this offseason.
There's no doubt that the Georgetown product is a solid, productive basketball player-- in his four-year professional career, Monroe has sported per-game averages of 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. His offensive presence would be a welcome sight in Orlando, especially with the recent departures of Jameer Nelson and Arron Afflalo. The only problem here lies within the fact that Monroe's game isn't suited for a more up-tempo, Run N' Gun pace that the Magic will probably implement with its new crop of young, athletic talent. We don't know if that playing style is the end game goal for Orlando, however, and Monroe's solid basketball IQ is another thing that could attract the team.
At this point, there's no telling what Rob Hennigan and Co. will actually do, but one thing that we surely know is that they'll have us on our toes in this free agency period.
