The Celtics Rundown
Orlando will look to end a depressing two-game losing skid -- with one of the losses coming at the hands of the Celtics -- on Monday night in Boston. In the first meeting between these two teams at the Amway Center, the C's were paced by a 16 point, 7 rebound performance by former Magic forward Brandon Bass. Orlando's effort was spoiled by their recurring tendency of coughing up the ball on offense and its miserable inability of shooting the three-ball at a decent clip-- their 20 percent mark off of 4-of-20 from beyond the arc surely didn't aid them in the two-point loss.
In a game that Orlando should have secured, we were given several reasons to believe that Jacque Vaughn's squad should have a better night tonight in Beantown against Boston's talent-deprived group. The numbers in this graphic display Orlando's success -- or lack thereof -- from the field in the first meeting between these two teams. I wouldn't bet on history repeating itself in this matchup, but we'll see if Orlando's poor effort was a result of an off night or particularly stingy defense from Brad Stevens' group.
Boston is on somewhat of a roll right now-- Jeff Green catapulted the team to victory after this Ray Allen-esque corner three against the Heat. This proved that the Celtics have several intriguing players that could once again pose problems for this young Magic squad, and we still haven't seen Neon Jesus perform at Neon Jesus Summer League level so far this season.
Spare us tonight, Neon Jesus.
Matchup To Watch
Maurice Harkless vs. Jeff Green
Boston's starting small forward, Jeff Green, has emerged as the ringleader for Boston on the offensive end through the team's first several contests. While Maurice Harkless hasn't been able to put up a great deal of points through Orlando's first seven games, he will continue to be tasked with guarding the opposing team's primary offensive weapon. Boston doesn't have a whole lot of weapons in its offensive arsenal, so shutting down Green will be priority #1 for Orlando's product out of St. John's. Harkless has shown us flashes of brilliance on the defensive end in his 2013-14 campaign, so it will be interesting to see if he can piece these spurts together and establish a sense of consistency on that side of the ball.
Social Media Spotlight
I guess that you have to do something to avoid boredom during rehab. We're starting to see a trend here in Orlando-- several of the players will assuredly have occupations after their playing careers, and that's ranging from Victor Oladipo's singing career to this harbinger of Glen Davis being the next great personal trainer at your local gym. Let's hope that both Tobias and Glen are well on their way to returning to action in the near future.
Video of the Day
A very underrated Maurice Harkless throwdown from last Friday's game between Boston and Orlando. Moe did a fantastic job of running the floor as Victor Oladipo pushed the ball up the court with some speed, and finished in traffic over a duo of Boston defenders in Jared Sullinger and Brandon Bass. Length, athleticism, and wingspan were on full display in this thunderous jam.
